Opening Act put Buddy to shame
I highly recommend catching Quinn, a 14-year-old guitar sensation who put Buddy Guy to shame during the opening act. Quinn has the traits of a true bluesman, able to play an incredible lead and hold a solid rhythm. His original stuff is very good, with three records out. Buddy's play seemed sloppy, distorted, and short. I'm still a huge fan of Buddy Guy, but I don't think I would see him again if this is typical of his shows. Quinn played for about an hour, rocking the house with all originals. He started playing at the age of 5, met Buddy at the age of 7, and Buddy has since been mentoring him, doing one hell of a job. Buddy had Quinn come out to play with him for several songs and even commented that Quinn puts him to shame. It's not one or the other, but a solid package. Buddy seemed more interested in the showmanship side of the gig vs the playing, spending close to 20 minutes walking around the audience while barely playing. I've not seen him in concert before so I'm not sure if this is standard for Buddy or not. His solos seemed rushed, very distorted, and didn't seem to have any method to his logic.
